Whispers on the Moon

Tonight the moon
Was a lidded eye
That gazed at me
Unblinking.
There were portents of doom
On that bloodshot moon
Of the blue and the black.
The dark trees were a frame
For that tainted disk
The light and the blackness beyond.
And the moon watched on
Till the end of the line.
Always brightest
From a distance.
