10 Reasons why Captain John Hart is NOT like Spike

1. Spike was not about the sex, he was about the love (sex/passion was just a natural part of that). He didn’t think about the shagability of everyone around him, he fixated – to an often unhealthy degree – on the one he loved.

2. Spike was a hot-blooded killer, not a cold-blooded one.

3. Spike prefered fists and fangs as his style, not weapons, tricks and gadgets.

4. Hart’s plan was too well thought out and well executed, Spike would have gotten bored and blown it.

5. Spike was basically honest (even in his badness, even in The Yoko Factor), he was not a good liar or manipulator when it involved outright lying.

6. Spike was governed by his emotions and his head followed after. John seems the other way round.

7. Spike wanted to have fun as a rebellion against the restraints of the world. John is a product of a more decadent society with a much looser morality and less-to-no restraints. His fun is not rebellion (it doesn’t need to be), but normality (even murderers seem to just go to rehab quite casually).

8. Spike always wanted to be more than he felt he was (better somehow, for either good or evil). John seems a bit lonely perhaps but essentially comfortable with who he is.

9. Spike was a perpetual outsider who had difficulty connecting with people. John seems like a people (all people, and poodles) person. He ASKED to be part of Jack’s team. Spike would never ever ASK for such a thing!! Not out loud!

10. Spike’s confident strutting was a mask for a serious lack of confidence. John’s confidence – especially given the other differences in behaviour and reasons for it – seems pretty real.
